Manaslu 2012 – a report of 6th May – combat with snow continues

07.05.2012

“Weather forecasts have suggested heavy snowfall till the 8th of May. Jędrek and Kamil run around Samagaon and Jurek went on a 2-day trip. The rest of us played cards and Scrabble. After two days of waiting for bad weather that did not appear, we decided to continue the operations.” – reported Polish Himalayan mountaineers from the unification expedition of Polish Mountaineering Association to Manaslu.

“Jarek, Grzegorz and Rafał went to C2, where they were digging out the tent from beneath 1,5 meter snow cover. Wojtek and Jędrek went to C1 to put up a tent, which was left there before. Tomorrow they are going to set off to C2. The rest of the participants are also going to set off from the base camp.” – announces Jerzy Natkański, leader of the expedition.

In the sent text messages one may also read: “A helicopter took 4 participants of the New Zealand expedition from Samagaon and brought our new liaison officer, who fortunately was content with meeting the leader of the expedition in Samagaon and decided not to go to the base camp. The helicopter brought also vegetables, chickens and fuel for a generator and consequently, “meat-electricity” conflict between the expedition and the kitchen came to an end. 7 Summits Treks Agency tries hard to provide us with a missing reducer and a mask for an oxygen tank that constitutes our support, just like a Gamow bag.”
