Base camp at the foot of Gasherbrum I – March 1, 2012
01.03.2012We lick our wounds after the last summit attempt. Our second, still “active” high altitude partner, Shaheen, has been sleeping almost all the time for three days and fighting with heartburn. Unfortunately, we suspect a more serious condition of the GI tract and we are not sure whether we will be able to continue climbing … In the meantime, another hurricane approaches the base camp. On 4th-5th March the wind speed at 6,000 m is supposed to reach 120 km/h. We are expecting stronger wind in the base camp than the last time, i.e. up to 100 km/h. We plan to wind up the mess tent and strengthen the kitchen for these two days. We are hoping that on 8th-10th March there is going to be a weather window that will allow for another summit attempt. We will keep you posted about our plans.
