Makalu 2011. Difficulties with returning to the base camp
02.10.2011After reaching the summit of Makalu, the climbers descended to camp 4. They started to descend to camp 3 yesterday. Due to exhaustion the Polish climbers decided to summon a helicopter. Simultaneously, several Sherpas with additional oxygen left from the base camp and went towards the climbers. They are going to help our climbers to descend to a place from which they are going to be transported via a helicopter.
On September 29 participants of the expedition of Polish Mountaineering Association summited Makalu (8,463 m). The fifth mountain of the world was conquered by Artur Hajzer, Adam Bielecki and Tomasz Wolfart.
The unification expedition of Polish Mountaineering Association started to operate at the beginning of September. The summit of Makalu was reached via the route of the first conquerors, called in their honour the French route.
